Surfside Beach Renourishment — 2026 Status

Surfside Beach is part of Reach 3, the project’s final phase, and sand placement is underway. Under a revised mid-July plan, the work zone runs from the Garden City line north to just before the Third Avenue South swash; the stretch from Third Avenue South to Fifth Avenue North has already reached its target elevation and gets no more sand. As of mid-July 2026, crews are working from 14th Avenue South to Sixth Avenue South, after which they move to the Fifth Avenue North area and continue toward Myrtle Beach State Park. Work is expected to continue into late August 2026.

What to Know

• Surfside Beach and Garden City together make up Reach 3, the last segment of the Grand Strand renourishment.
• Sand placement in Surfside Beach began in early July 2026. Under a revised mid-July plan, the work zone spans from the Garden City line north to just before the Third Avenue South swash.
• As of mid-to-late July 2026, crews have wrapped the 14th-to-Sixth Avenue South section and are moving to the Fifth Avenue North area, heading toward Myrtle Beach State Park; the section between Third Avenue South and Fifth Avenue North has already reached its target elevation.
• Expect rolling ~1,000-foot closures for two to three days at a time — check the live tracker for today’s active section before you head out.
• The final phase (Surfside Beach and Garden City) is expected to be complete by late August 2026.
