Surfside Beach Renourishment — 2026 Status

Surfside Beach is complete. Together with Garden City it formed the final segment of the Grand Strand project, which the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially finished on August 15, 2026 — more than 600,000 cubic yards of sand across 7.7 miles in the two communities. All beaches and accesses have reopened.

What to Know

• Surfside Beach and Garden City together made up Reach 3, the last segment of the Grand Strand renourishment. USACE’s final tally: more than 600,000 cubic yards of sand along 7.7 miles across the two communities, completed August 15, 2026.
• Sand placement began in early July 2026 and moved through town in sections; the stretch from Third Avenue South to Fifth Avenue North had already reached target elevation and got no additional sand.
• In late July, crews worked the oceanfront campground area north of town, then continued north to the southern end of Myrtle Beach State Park before the dredge moved to the final Garden City stretch.
• All Surfside Beach accesses have reopened. No further renourishment work is scheduled in Surfside Beach.
